1. The Axe
For the love of beer…
Boasting over 22 of the rarest local and international beers on tap (and even more in the fridge), The Axe is a laid back pub in the heart of Stoke Newington. Their intimate, leafy beer garden is an ideal safe haven away from the often overwhelming hustle and bustle of city life. Don’t worry, they don’t do food half-heartedly either, expect to see items such as slow roasted pork belly and panko cod on the menu, and they couldn’t help themselves but to offer a Sunday roast could they?

For a beer garden like no other, this Alice in Wonderland-inspired pub and restaurant has been lovingly described as a ‘festival in a pub’ with some of the finest London-based bands and DJs regularly coming in to create the ambience. Complete with a few cosy corners, a beautifully decorated car, and endless strings of twinkling lights, this garden is a sight to behold and a unique way to spend a summer’s evening in London. This Georgian building is a glimpse into Islington’s rural past, now transformed into a gastropub, a favourite amongst the locals and for good reason with an exceptional all-day menu, cocktails, and a lengthy wine list.

As for the pub itself, the large space is filled with whimsical vintage decor plus plenty of space for enjoying some live sport, live music, and their open mic nights.

Roll up, roll up, for it’s time to take a trip to the circus! Don’t be fooled by its traditional public house exterior, The Aeronaut offers a pub night out like no other with weekend cabaret shows and circus performers, as well as weekly entertainment including social bingo, drag evenings, and wacky pub quizzes that’ll keep you coming back for more. Their Fairground Garden is a nostalgic sun-soaked haven with circus-esque lettering, traditional striped walls, and repurposed fairground stalls as an ode to the classic games including coconut shy, hook-a-duck, and strong man.
