1. Chishuru

This significant month is seeing a brand new beginning for one of the best ‘pop-up gone permanent’ stories in the city. Following the closure of their original Brixton venue in October of 2022, London foodies were left wondering what was next for Chishuru, and now we finally have our answer. Named one of Codes “100 Most Influential Women in Hospitality”, Adejoké Bakare’s popular West African eatery is now serving their delicious, ever-changing set menus in Fitzrovia alongside French wines and cocktails made with West African ingredients.

2. New Beacon Books

Serving Stroud Green since 1966, John La Rose and Sarah White’s opening of New Beacon Books became pivotal to the growth of the Black Education Movement. Specialising in African and Caribbean literature, it is the only remaining independent Black publishing and bookselling project in the UK. As of today, the store continues to stock a wide selection of poetry, literature, and history books from all over the world. 3. Treats Club

Lungi Mhlanga and her delicious baked treats have been satisfying Londoners with a sweet tooth since she began popping up with her giant gazebo at various food markets in 2018. Now in its very own shop on Hackney Road, Treats Club has built an impressive reputation serving some of the best cooked-to-order doughnuts in town, scooping innovative ice cream flavours, and being the one and only destination for gourmet marshmallow fluff. All of the goodies are handmade, 100% vegetarian, and halal so you can rest assured that there’ll be something for everyone to bite into.

4. Little Sister

Run by Peckham local, Nicole Brierly, Little Sister is an independent vintage clothing store nestled inside of the popular Market Peckham on Rye Lane. This petite outlet stocks carefully-sourced and curated vintage gems from all over the country with pieces from the 1960s, 70s, and 80s ready for the taking. 5. Dark Sugars

If you’ve never tried one of Dark Sugars’ indulgent hot chocolates or hand-crafted truffles, what in the love of chocolate are you waiting for? Owner, Nyanga has been transporting Brick Lane dwellers to West Africa with her tantalising vegan creations, African décor, and rich aroma of roasted cocoa beans since 2013, and has since spread her wings into Greenwich with an ice cream shop and a flagship Cacao House. Stop by one of these sweet spots to get blown away by the finest chocolate around where every bite tells a story of one African woman’s quest to spread her love of cocoa.

6. Hacha

Celebrating all things tequila and mezcal at their two London locations, Hacha is a vibrant cocktail lounge famous for their refreshingly good Mirror Margerita which has unsurprisingly been voted the seventh best cocktail in the world by Timeout - gotta be worth a try, right? Accompanying their tantalising tipples, they have some pretty incredible kitchen residences including the likes of Tigre Tacos cooking up a storm of irresistible Mexican dishes. If you’re heading out on a Tuesday, head over for 60 minutes of bottomless tacos or on Saturdays where Mirror Margarita’s are endlessly flowing from 12pm to 3pm.
